In short
An online shop built by a professional usually starts at around €1,000 to €5,000 for a simple catalogue, and often goes beyond €5,000 to €10,000 when custom built. On top of that come hosting or a subscription, payment fees on every sale, shipping costs and maintenance. In the EU, since 19 June 2026, an online withdrawal function has been mandatory for sales to consumers.
From €1,000 to over €10,000 depending on the catalogue.
Hosting or subscription, add-ons, maintenance.
A percentage, and sometimes a fixed fee, on every payment.
Terms of sale, withdrawal, dispute resolution, personal data.
A worked example for a small shop with 50 products, built by a professional. The amounts are a guide only, to adjust to your own quotes.
| Item | Example amount | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Building the shop | €2,500 | Design, product pages, payment, delivery |
| Product photos | €300 to €1,000 | Or do them yourself, carefully |
| Writing product descriptions | Included or €10 to €30 per product | Original text, not copied |
| Domain and hosting | €100 to €400 per year | Depending on the solution chosen |
| Maintenance and backups | €300 to €1,000 per year | Updates, security |
| Payment fees | About 1.5% to 3% of sales | Depending on the provider and the card |
| Legal pages and terms of sale | Included or to be checked | Ideally by a legal professional |
Example: €30,000 in sales with a 2% fee means €600 in payment fees over the year. Add up the build and annual costs to compare offers over three years, not just the first quote.
